Blera
Blera was founded in around the VIII-VII centuries B.C.
The village was created from a fusion of Iron Age villages on a rocky outcrop at the meeting of two streams: Biedano and Ricanale. The Latin name Blera, which changed during the Middle Ages, was brought back in 1952.
Blera’s richest period was during Etruscan times: it was on a crossroads of which connected Cerveteri and Tarquinia as well as other inland towns. It went on being important during the Republican and Imperial Roman periods when it became a Municipality.
Tradition has it that St. Vivenzio (patron saint of the town) was the first bishop.
